The setting within the historic Spaso-Andronikov Monastery is also a significant draw. While the art is highly praised, some reviewers note that the museum itself could benefit from renovation, and actual works by Andrei Rublev are scarce.

"An extremely beautiful place with fascinating artworks. There are many English descriptions, too. You will be surprised by how colourful and vivid ancient Russian icons can be. The museum is set in a wonderful monastery which it would be worth visiting for its own sake. There is also a great cafe with extremely reasonable prices. I had a very tasty apple pie."

"We had no idea who Andrey Rublev was, but decided to visit his museum :) It's a great little museum on iconography. Sound boring? Well, it's not for everyone, but it's a window into Russian art, history, and culture, when icons were not only objects of public/private devotion but a means to communicate spiritual truths to an illiterate peasantry. The staff may be the single nicest collection of people I've met thus far in Russia. And the whole thing is on the site of a beautiful little monastery, which when built must have been a mile or two outside Moscow. The grounds and walls are currently undergoing much needed renovations. Oh, and the cafe on the grounds is terrific."
