Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the Ryabushinsky Mansion for its stunning Art Nouveau architecture, particularly the iconic carved staircase and intricate interior details. Many appreciate the dual history of the house, recognizing both its origins as a wealthy entrepreneur's estate and its later life as Maxim Gorky's residence. While some note that original furnishings are scarce, the architectural brilliance and unique design elements make it a highly recommended visit for history and art lovers.

"Nice detach house. In the past it was very stylish building. However, only small details from interior can show it now. Furniture haven't survive.
Very interesting view to how to do door locks and window details."

Nazar Lelyak

"This a must have destination for people with interest in Russian history and literature, and architecture. The house was built by successful Russian entrepreneur Ryabushinsky. The guy invited Shekhtel, who was a legend architect without an architect diploma) Shekhtel was given pretty much full freedom, so he splurged on all kinds of art deco things. Then after Bolsheviks took power, Ryabushinsky ran overseas.Eventually Maxim Gorky lived there, and he was a legend too, precursor of the revolution, a bum, who after revolution became a writer superstar, very rich, friend of Lenin and so on..."

Yura Timoshenko

"Even though the museum is formally called "Gorky´s House", everyone knows it as "Ryabushinsky´s House" - a gorgeous building in Art-Nouveau style with amazing interiors - masterpiece of architect Fødor Schechtel. A rare example of a very beautiful and breath taking architecture but still very cozy and human-scale. Its just always a great pleasure to pass it by or visit it, thankfully to loads of discounts or free entrances that Museum offers. Truly worth visiting

Schechtel, a self-taught architect, was renowned for his innovative approach, blending organic forms with functional design. The mansion showcases his signature style with its flowing lines, intricate ornamentation, and a harmonious integration of art and architecture. Visitors are often struck by the building's unique facade and the detailed craftsmanship evident in every corner. Reddit

Schechtel's genius is particularly apparent in the mansion's interior. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the mansion also tells a story of historical transition. After the Bolshevik Revolution, the Ryabushinsky family fled Russia, and the house was eventually occupied by the famous writer Maxim Gorky. While formally known as Gorky's House-Museum, the building's architectural legacy as the Ryabushinsky Mansion is undeniable and a primary draw for visitors interested in Russian architectural history. From Entrepreneur's Estate to Writer's Sanctuary

The Ryabushinsky Mansion boasts a fascinating dual history, first as the opulent residence of the wealthy industrialist Sergei Ryabushinsky and later as the home of the celebrated writer Maxim Gorky. The mansion was a symbol of Ryabushinsky's success and his appreciation for cutting-edge design and art. Reddit
