However, he never got around to it, as he lost his position after the establishment of Soviet power, and the new workers' and peasants' mayors themselves nationalized the house."

Sirotkin was the head of Nizhny Novgorod at the beginning of the 20th century: from 1913 to 1917. The mansion, which now houses the art museum, was Sorotkin's family home.
