Reviews Summary
Visitors find the Ivan Turgenev Museum to be a modest yet historically significant site, offering a personal glimpse into the life of the renowned writer. The passionate guides are frequently highlighted for their ability to bring the past to life, making the experience deeply engaging. However, potential visitors should be aware of inconsistent opening hours, making it crucial to verify times before their visit.
"Before each trip somewhere, I inquire about this place in different sources. They started to cook up a museum in 1918 (in the year of the 100th anniversary of Ivan Sergeevich's birth) in the house of the former vice-governor of the city of Orel... Galakhov. His wife, nee Shenshina - the niece of Afanasy Afanasyevich Fet, inherited Spasskoye-Lutovinovo and the estate of A.A. Fet in Kleymenovo. This museum and literary complex began with objects and utensils from these places. Now it is called the Oryol United State Literary Museum of I.S. Turgenev and also includes the houses of Granovsky, Leskov, Bunin, Andreev and the museum of Oryol writers... My dream came true - I am in the birthplace of real, eternal, high literature! The house is also under renovation on the outside, but... it didn't stop me from realizing the significance of time and place.
After my pilgrimage here, I am, at first glance, gnawed by a sanctimonious sore throat - I know the story of Bunin in France with his wife, Kuznetsova and Kuznetsova's friend; the story of Chopin with Aurora Dupin-Dudevant (Georges Sand)... How did Louis Viardot, Pauline Viardot and Ivan Turgenev live under the same roof in France??? A mystery!!!"

"We were there on April 30, 2024. The museum is modest. But the guide, a young girl (it's a pity we didn't remember her name, her last name is Ovsyannikova, if I'm not mistaken) plunged us headlong into that era. It was very interesting! The person works with soul)))) we highly recommend it."

"In this museum dedicated to the famous Russian writer I.S. Turgenev, you can find a lot of information about him. There are several museum halls and it is spacious. Here you can find Turgenev's own manuscripts and travel back in time."
