What Travellers Say

Visitors praise the Pafnuty-Borovsky Monastery for its authentic religious atmosphere and rich historical significance, noting the preserved frescoes and the rewarding bell tower views. Some mention the need for cash payments and the poor condition of the access road, but overall, it's considered a worthwhile visit for its spiritual and historical depth.
"Quite authentic religious monastery compound with rich historic background. Not fancy, in need of reconsruction in many places. Lovely church, there are authentic Fresco's left in many places, including bell tower. Beware, this place shops and cafe do not accept any payments except Cash. The last mile road to this venue is pretty bad, but this place is surely worth to visit if you re in vicinity."

"Men’s monastery from the 15th century deeply connected with overall Russian history (i.e. false Dimitry, Napoleonic wars).
The museum is located in the basement behind the bell tower (coming from the entrance). I highly recommend to take a tour (in Russian only) to the top of the bell tower for 500 RUB. There are other tours (in Russian only, RUB 2000) as well which allow you to visit the wall, other parts of the bell tower and the hospital church.
The main church is only open at certain times during the day. We visited the main church at 16:00. The insides of the main church are very impressive.
Both church and bell tower contain frescoes from the 16th and 17th century which are medium well preserved.
Overall highly recommended to visit if you are in the area."

"A great place with miraculous icons.
But this post is about the bell tower. You can only get there with a guide, as part of at least a small group. Entrance is 100 rubles. The climb is steep. The views of Borovsk are breathtaking. A short and interesting description accompanies the views. Incidentally, there are as many as three Old Believer churches in small Borovsk."
