"The Surb Khach Church is an amazing place that attracts tourists from all over the area. The centuries-old structure conceals memory, history and mysticism at the same time. Surb Khach is an Armenian sanctuary built in the distant 18th century by the Armenians themselves, immigrants from Crimea. Today it is a magnificent temple towering on the hills of the Northern Reservoir. The charming silence, the park area around and the adjacent Temernik River create all the conditions for prayer, a peaceful walk and even a search for ancient treasures. Let's go back 240 years ago, when Catherine II, in order to economically weaken the Crimean Khanate, which was unfriendly to the Russian Empire, carried out a large migration of the Christian population, namely the Crimean Armenians. Wanting to lower the position of the rich of the Crimean Khanate, the empress managed to implement her plan and leave them without labor. Taking with them all the valuables: parchment manuscripts, dishes, ancient books, khachkars (stone steles with a carved image of a cross) and church valuables, the Armenians set off from Crimea to Rostov-on-Don. It is worth noting that the hidden treasures have not been found to this day and attract treasure hunters from all over the country. Near the river, near the fortress of Dmitry Rostovsky, tired and weakened Armenians settled and created a city from scratch Nakhichevan, later renamed Nakhichevan-on-Don. The deeply religious people missed their home and prayed tirelessly. It was quickly decided to build a new haven for prayers here - the Surb Khach temple, which means "Church of the Holy Cross". The implementation of Ivan Starov's project took 6 years and gave the city a beautiful shrine in the classical style, completely different from Armenian churches. The functioning seminary and the first printing house in Russia made the temple the pride of the entire country, both then and today. In the twentieth century, the temple underwent many trials: the closure of the monastery, conversion to an orphanage, use as a grain storage facility. After a lightning strike in 1935, the bell tower and part of the roof of the monastery were destroyed. Since then, the buildings of the temple have been plundered, and it itself gradually deteriorated. Having survived the threat of demolition of the holy place, rich in history, the church still survived and was restored in 1972. Such an atmospheric a place with a rich and complex history, and today it remains the same strong-spirited temple as it was 200 years ago. The main relic of the church has been since its creation and is a 6th century khachkar. The stone cross was transported by Armenian settlers from the ancient capital of Ani. Today Surb Khach is the main attraction of the Voroshilovsky district of Rostov-on-Don. The functioning temple, in which services are regularly held, allows you to simply think, pray and rest your soul in silence. The temple is famous throughout the city and is a favorite place for newlyweds to get married. The purest spirit and amazing interior will give you unforgettable memories of such an important day. The adjacent spring is a favorite place for traditional Epiphany bathing. Moreover, in the summer the spring is the center of public life, because the crystal water allows you to relax with the whole family. Near the church there is a lake where you can go fishing or just walk with your child along the picturesque reservoir."
