"This watchtower has a curious story. Rybinsk, an old wooden town, was prone to frequent fires, so a fire department was established there. By that time, the watchtower was no longer particularly needed; residents alerted the fire department by telephone. But local merchants couldn't stand the ridicule and built a new stone watchtower, the last one built in Russia."
