What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors appreciate the heartfelt performances and the lovingly made puppets at the Republican Puppet Theater Mordovia. The staff are noted for being kind and excellent. However, post-renovation seating can be an issue for visibility, and the theater's buffet is not always available, leading to advice to bring your own refreshments.
"I don't understand why, if my child (a small child, 3 years old) is sitting on my lap, I should pay an extra 150 rubles for an empty seat? The new seats weren't impressive. If you recline the front row, it's fine, but the back rows are already poorly visible, and with the new seats, you can barely see half of the way. We went after the renovation, and it was a complete disappointment. The theater has been transformed into a hospital. They've taken away such beauty that gave our puppet theater its charm. It's a shame about the frescoes!!! And yes, the theater doesn't always have a buffet. Bring your own food and water."

"The theatre is very small, adapted for children. I liked the transforming chairs that help the child sit higher. The performance was heartfelt, it is obvious that the actors and all the staff love their work. The child really liked it. There is also an exhibition of children's library books in the lobby, you can take and leaf through the books."

"I really like the theater foyer; the murals are impressive! The auditorium is a bit ugly and dated, with narrow rows and shabby seats—it slightly detracts from enjoying the actors' performances. The puppets are fascinating and lovingly made. My daughter always asks for photos with the puppets, but unfortunately, that service isn't available."

Navigating Post-Renovation Seating
It's also important to be aware of the theater's policy regarding young children. If a child is under a certain age and sits on a parent's lap, there may be an additional charge for the empty seat beside them, even if it remains unoccupied. This is a common practice in some venues to account for space utilization. Visitors are advised to clarify these policies when purchasing tickets or upon arrival to avoid any surprises.

The Charm of the Foyer and Lobby
Beyond the visual appeal, the lobby often features an exhibition of children's library books. This thoughtful addition allows young attendees and their families to browse and engage with literature before or after a performance, adding an educational and interactive dimension to the visit. It's a small touch that enhances the overall family-friendly atmosphere of the theater.
