"Arriving in Serpukhov in the afternoon and planning to leave the following morning, we chose two local monasteries to explore. This was the first.
There's a small parking lot by the Holy Gates, but on a weekday it was spacious. And inside the Monastery, there weren't many people.
High walls. The grounds are very well-maintained and have a slight slope toward the Vvedensky Cathedral. This alley from the Holy Gates to the Cathedral, with small branches leading to the school, museum, and refectory, is publicly accessible. Everything else is off-limits: monastic life takes place there, and the layman has no business getting involved—and that's right. You can occasionally catch a glimpse of this life through a camera lens, but only the very edge, and even then only by chance. Photography is not permitted inside the churches (it's not blessed). Therefore, the Monastery, although seemingly large, shows you only the barest hint. However, this little thing, these Temples (when they're open), and the very air of the Abbey, its atmosphere, are so saturated with spirituality and faith that you simply don't want to leave.
It's GOOD here!"
