"The monument commemorating the 300th anniversary of Taganrog is located at the beginning of the Stone Stairs on Pushkinskaya Embankment, which was renovated by 1998. It was unveiled on September 13, 2002. The monument's composition is symbolic: three columns represent the 300 years since the founding of Taganrog by Emperor Peter the Great. The original design called for a figure of a seagull from A.P. Chekhov's stories to be placed atop the columns, but since 2009, the monument has been crowned with a sculpture of a guardian angel, holding a cup of plenty in his arms."
