Reviews Summary

Visitors appreciate Karamzin Public Garden for its historical significance, particularly the monument to Nikolai Karamzin and the charming 19th-century fence. It's lauded as a surprisingly quiet and atmospheric spot in the city center, perfect for peaceful strolls. However, some reviews note that the garden's flora, like the lilac bushes, could benefit from more attention and replanting.

"A surprisingly quiet and uncrowded place in the center of the city of Simbirsk (now, unfortunately, Ulyanovsk).
An atmospheric park area with a monument in the center of the square to the historian and writer Nikolai Mikhailovich Karamzin.
The monument was erected back in 1845.
Karamzin was considered a fellow countryman in the Simbirsk province.
On the pedestal stands a majestic statue of the muse of history "Clio". With her right hand she places the tablets of the "History of the Russian State" - the main work of N. M. Karamzin - on the altar of immortality, and in her left hand she holds a fanfare trumpet, with the help of which she intends to broadcast about the glorious pages of Russian history.
In the pedestal of the monument, in a round niche, there is a bust of the historian. The pedestal is decorated with two high reliefs. On the northern one, K. M. Klimchenko depicted Karamzin reading an excerpt from his "History" to Alexander I in the presence of his sister Ekaterina Pavlovna, during the emperor's stay in Tver in 1811. On the other, the sculptor N. A. Ramazanov, also in allegorical form, depicts Nikolai Mikhailovich on his deathbed surrounded by his family at the moment when he learned of the generous pension granted to him by Nicholas I. In accordance with the canons of the classical style, all the figures of the monument are depicted in antique clothing."

"Cozy. A colorful place. And the 19th-century fence, built around the park with funds from the townspeople! It's still standing! The monument is certainly controversial and a bit odd. But the figure of the muse is beautiful."

"It's lovely here in winter too.
