Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Voroninsky Nature Reserve for its well-equipped campsites and the engaging guided excursions. "Nice"

Дмитрий Дедов

"Today, the kids and I visited the Voroninsky Nature Reserve! We had so many memories! A huge thank you to the guides for a fascinating and informative excursion. We learned so much, and I'm looking forward to kayaking again!"

Юлия Кириллова

"We kayaked the entire reserve ourselves. The campsites are well-equipped: firewood, a fire pit, a restroom—excellent, very clean! On Kosuliy Island, we heard those same roe deer screaming in the night. It was terrifying, especially since they were just roe deer, as we learned later from the ranger. One noticeable drawback: the distances between campsites are on average 15 km long. Sometimes you want to get out on the shore to stretch your legs, but frankly, there's no way. Maybe they could build floating stations along the stretches, just a couple of barrels and a tin ramp so you can stretch your legs, and then you wouldn't even need to get out. The last stretch between Melnitsa and Ugolok: the second blockage is impassable. Go around it along the left bank, along the shoals. Don't even try to enter the current; you'll get stuck in the blockage. It would be nice to put a sign here indicating the detour. And there are no landmarks on Ramza anymore. We scraped along the left bank somehow. Overall, the impression is good, thanks to the inspectors!"

Kayaking Adventures

Voroninsky Nature Reserve offers a unique kayaking experience along the Vorona River. Visitors can paddle through diverse floodplain landscapes, enjoying the tranquility of the water and the surrounding natural beauty. The campsites are well-equipped, providing essential amenities like firewood and restrooms, making multi-day trips feasible. However, be prepared for significant distances between campsites, averaging around 15 km, which requires stamina and planning. Reddit

Navigational challenges exist, particularly river blockages. A notable one between Melnitsa and Ugolok requires kayakers to detour along the left bank. It's crucial to be aware of these potential obstacles and plan accordingly. The reserve's rangers are a valuable resource for up-to-date information on river conditions and safe passage. Reddit

Kayaking here is not just about the journey but also the immersive experience. The sounds of nature, including the calls of roe deer at night, add to the wild charm of the reserve. It's an excellent opportunity for those seeking an active and adventurous way to explore a pristine natural environment. Reddit

Landscape Diversity

The reserve's terrain is a fascinating mosaic of landscape complexes, primarily dominated by the floodplain type. This expansive area, stretching 4 to 8 km wide, features low-lying surfaces (1.5-2.5 m relative height) composed of floodplain alluvium. Characteristic features include lowland swamps, expansive lake-like riverbed expansions, lush floodplain meadows, swampy oxbow lakes, dense black alder groves, broadleaf floodplain forests, and thick willow thickets. Reddit

Complementing the floodplain are slope landscapes, primarily found along the right bank of the Vorona River and its tributaries. These areas are characterized by upland and ravine broadleaf and small-leaved forests. Additionally, above-floodplain-terrace and upland landscape types are present, though in narrower, discontinuous strips. These include gently undulating plateau areas cut by ravines, supporting meadow steppes and steppe meadows. Reddit

For the floodplain-terrace type, expect level to gently rolling terrace areas adorned with dry meadows, fallow lands, pine and oak stands, and broadleaf and small-leaved forests. This rich variety of landscapes creates a visually stunning and ecologically diverse environment, offering unique sights for visitors. Reddit

Camping and Facilities

The campsites within Voroninsky Nature Reserve are designed for a comfortable wilderness experience. Visitors can expect essential amenities such as firewood and fire pits, allowing for evening campfires. The presence of restrooms further enhances the convenience for campers, ensuring a cleaner and more pleasant stay. Reddit

However, it's important to note the spacing of these campsites. They are situated approximately 15 km apart on average. This significant distance means that campers should be prepared for extended periods of kayaking between sites and may wish for more frequent opportunities to disembark and stretch their legs. Reddit

While the existing facilities are commendable, there's a suggestion for improvement: the addition of floating stations along longer stretches could provide much-needed resting points for kayakers. This would allow visitors to break up the longer journeys and enjoy the scenery more comfortably. Reddit
