What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find Bloody Point to be a site of significant historical interest, particularly for its connection to a pivotal battle and the presence of the dangerous Manchineel Tree. While some note there's not much to 'see' physically beyond a sign and the tree, the historical context provided by guides is highly valued. It's often visited as part of a larger island tour.
"Another stop on a road side that we never got out to look at (just a sign anyway). This was the area where the battle between the English & French troops had with the Kalinagos (Caribes). The tribes only had arrows and spears that were tipped with poison against the foreign troops' guns.
The poison came from the Manchineel Tree which is the most poisonous tree in the world. Everything on the tree is that way, so don’t even eat the green apples. Several soldiers died because of the poison. The antidote was actually salt water (per tour guide) but the soldiers never knew that.
The name comes from the story that the water turned red from all the Caribes that died during that war in 1629."

"We were on a minivan tour going all around the island. The van stopped at this spot and the driver spent time explaining the history. We were not able to get out of the van and there was really nothing to see. Just a bit of interesting history."
