What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find the National Gallery a compact and interesting stop, particularly when included in a museum pass. While some note the exhibition size for the individual ticket price, others praise the quality of contemporary art and the value of guided tours. The gallery is appreciated for its accessibility and as a quick cultural addition to a San Marino visit.
"I visited this museum around noon on a rainy Sunday, and there were very few people, which made it easy to explore. The ground floor is mainly the entrance, ticket office, and shop, while the first and only floor houses the art, objects, and photography. The archive is also there, but it’s closed to the public and only accessible by appointment.
Information is available in both English and Italian, although some parts are not translated. The exposition is small, so you can see the entire museum in 30 minutes or less, making it a nice quick stop. There is an elevator and toilets available for convenience.
The ticket is included with the San Marino pass, which is very handy. If visiting on its own, the price may feel a bit high compared to the size of the exhibition, so it’s something to keep in mind if your time or budget is limited."

"Today I had the most pleasant visit at this beautiful place. I was lucky enough to get a guided tour with a guide who had amazing expertise, not only on the art in the gallery but also on the history of San Marino.
Later I wandered along the narrow path of the old railway tunnel, thinking about the human instinct to go into the forest to heal; to first find a connection with nature, and after that, with yourself again. And then to exhale that trauma onto the canvas, to connect with others once more.
There’s something so fragile and yet extremely strong in that, all at the same time.
Thank you Rita Canarezza for a truly memorable and thought-provoking experience!"

"No need to visit this place unless you purchase the tickets available for accessing 8 museums. Upon entering, you will be given a key for the locker where you are asked to store your bags. The main and only exhibition is at the second floor, where only very few art works were presented. Also, one of the staff followed us to the second floor and kept supervising us till the end of our visit. Overall, no need to come if you don’t have enough time!"

Exploring Contemporary Art
While the collection is not extensive, its impact lies in the quality and thematic coherence. The gallery also hosts temporary exhibitions, such as the 'Arte e design. Design è arte' show, which explores the intersection of art and design, drawing inspiration from visionary thinkers. This dynamic approach ensures that each visit can offer something new and engaging.
For those seeking a deeper understanding, guided tours are highly recommended. Guides often provide insightful commentary not only on the artworks but also on the historical and cultural context of San Marino, enriching the visitor's appreciation.
The Value Proposition: Passes vs. Individual Tickets
However, a significant advantage is that the San Marino pass often includes admission to the National Gallery. If you intend to explore multiple museums and attractions within San Marino, purchasing this pass can offer considerable savings and convenience. It's a practical tip for budget-conscious travelers looking to maximize their experience of the Republic's cultural offerings.
This makes the National Gallery a more appealing stop when bundled with other sites, rather than a standalone destination if budget is a primary concern. Always check the current offerings and inclusions of the San Marino pass before your visit to make the most informed decision.
