What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Dakar Waterfront is a bustling hub, primarily known for the ferry to Gorée Island. While the journey can be chaotic with touts and potential accessibility issues, many find it a necessary and historically significant experience. The area also boasts modern waterfront residences offering luxury living and coastal views.
"Car parking is at a premium & appears to be operated by 'touts'. I could be wrong. However, they could be inappropriately dressed officials. There was a barrier at its entrance, but it didn't issue tickets upon entry. The barrier was locked in the open position. We were initially refused travel because we didn't have our passports, but after initially refusing, they accepted photos of our passports, which we had on our devices. I'm inclined to think that the requirement to show a passport was solely to determine which fee to charge. The lowest fee was for locals, then a slightly higher fee for African passport holders, and then the higher fee was for other passport holders. Your passports are not checked at the time you buy the ticket, but when you went through the gate to board and if your ticket didn't match the passports, i.e., local, African, etc, you would be made to pay the correct fare. Boarding was like queuing for store opening on a black Friday sale, a rush to get to the boat. It was 'organised' chaos. The gang-plank used to board was unstable and would cause difficulty for a wheelchair passenger. That would be even more difficult to disembark at Goree Island as there was no gang-plank, and the boat was unsteady due to a loose mooring line and the waves."

"Has parking, the process to get a ticket to visit Goreè is very organised. Although there are few touts, you don't need their help to get the ticket.
They don't speak English, so you should either be able to speak French or get an interpreter by you."

"As others have said , we need a passport to gain entry ( although we used a photo of the same ) . Queue at first window for tax and second for ticket, took us 30 mins in December , crossing short and good."
