"The tiny Church of the Twelve Apostles is the only one in Balaklava. It is lost among the old cramped courtyards and seems to be somewhere outside of time: it survived the first and second defense, the liberation of Sevastopol, and many buildings in the city. Now there are many people here: Greeks, Ukrainians, Russians. Stupid tourists and sedate locals. There are roses in the yard. There are grapes on the trellis. A birch tree grows nearby. An old woman carefully picks its leaves: the birch tree here is a rare tree, you can count them on your fingers."
