Built on the site of an older wooden church, erected in 1806.
The design for the new church was developed by St. Petersburg architect Konstantin Lazarev.
The cathedral's foundation stone was laid on June 29, 1866. Construction was completed in August 1866, but finishing work continued until 1870.
The first service was held in the cathedral on August 16, 1870.
In 1937, the cathedral's dome and bell tower were dismantled, and the church was converted into a warehouse.
Restoration of the cathedral began in the 1980s. The architect O.I. Sergeeva was the author of the project. In the Synod archives, S.L. Belova was able to find designs for the restoration of the bell tower and dome.

A divine holy place of prayer. If you walk for two minutes at a leisurely pace, then nearby is the ancient Church of Constantine and Helena (sometimes it is called Catherine's in honor of the Russian Empress), as well as the Trinity Monastery, where the relics of Luke of Crimea are located."
