Reviews Summary

The Gateway is praised for its strategic location near Bugis MRT and its impressive city views from upper floors. While the unique architecture is a highlight, some find the office spaces less practical due to the building's shape. Dining options within the building are limited, with many recommending nearby Bugis for more variety. The lack of direct weather protection from the MRT is a minor inconvenience.

"Very well located with plenty of available carpark and season parking is also available. The office spaces have some disadvantages dur to the shape of the building but upper floors have a nice city view. There is also a quiet starbucks on the ground floor which is a lifesaver for impromptu meetings or just to take a breather:)"

"The Gateway is comprises of 2 buildings namely Gateway East and Gateway West.

Located in downtown between Bugis MRT and Suntec City surrounded by many restaurants, shopping malls like bugis junction, bugis+, Haji lanes and even Sultan Mosque are within walking distance.

If you don’t like to walk too far for foods, there is a Starbuck on the 1st floor of west building or small food court on the basement of east building.

Depending on the floor and where the office is facing, the surrounding view from the office can be nice to see (see photos and videos)

The only drawback is that there is no overhead bridge or underground leading to mrt so you will need an umbrella when raining."

"Gateway west is a great commercial office building that close to Bugis MRT. Within the building, it has StarBucks and a few shops for food & beverage. Office is secure with access card control and security guards. The only issue is bigger truck can't get into basement car park plus the security won't truck stop at the drop off area even just for a second. Overall lovely view and nice building."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

Architectural Significance

The Gateway, designed by the renowned architect I.M. Pei, is a striking example of 1990s postmodern architecture in Singapore. Its most distinctive feature is the optical illusion created by its twin towers, which appear as a single, impossibly thin structure from certain angles. This design was groundbreaking and has made it a memorable landmark on Singapore's skyline. TikTok+1

Pei, also known for designing the Louvre Pyramid, brought his signature geometric style to The Gateway. The building's form has been described as 'architectural origami' and even a 'killer blade' due to its sharp lines and seemingly flat profile. This bold design was not without its controversies, with some feng shui masters reportedly having concerns about its sharp edges. TikTok

Despite its age compared to newer developments, The Gateway remains an impressive sight. Its unique design continues to captivate visitors and photographers alike, serving as a testament to innovative architectural thinking. The views from the upper floors offer a fantastic perspective of the surrounding cityscape. TikTokReddit

Navigating The Gateway and Surrounds

The Gateway is strategically situated on Beach Road, making it a central point for exploring various attractions. Its proximity to Bugis MRT station is a major advantage for public transport users. However, travelers should be aware that there isn't a direct underground link, necessitating a short walk and preparedness for potential rain. TikTokReddit

For those who prefer to avoid the elements, alternative routes are recommended. One suggestion is to use the underpass to Guoco Midtown and then cross the traffic light. Alternatively, bus services like the 57 from Little India MRT can drop you off close to the building. Reddit

The surrounding area is a hub of activity, with Bugis Junction, Bugis+, and the vibrant Haji Lane all within walking distance. This means a plethora of shopping, dining, and cultural experiences are readily available, making The Gateway a convenient base for exploring Singapore. Reddit
