What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Liptovský Trnovec Beach is praised for its stunning natural beauty, refreshing waters, and ample space, offering a perfect escape on hot summer days with breathtaking Tatra Mountain views. While the stony shore and potentially pricey food are noted drawbacks, the overall relaxed vibe and authentic Slovak atmosphere make it a highly recommended swimming spot.
"Pláž Liptovská Mara was one of the highlights of our OTKD trip with Ondra. We only stopped here for about two hours, but in the summer heat it was absolutely perfect. Even though the main parking was full, you can leave your car in a nearby village if there’s space, so it’s manageable.
What made it amazing was that it wasn’t overcrowded—there was plenty of room to sit, swim, and enjoy the surroundings. The water was refreshingly cold, and while swimming you could see the Tatras in the distance, which gave it a magical Slovak atmosphere.
The whole place has a relaxed vibe, with enough space for both swimming and sports activities, and it really feels like authentic Slovakia in summer. Honestly, I loved it—it’s one of the best places to swim in Slovakia when the weather is hot."

"It is a nice, natural beach. There are a lot of trees providing shade when you are out of the water. The water gets deep quickly, and the floor is covered by small to medium sized stones.
The entry fee is 6 EUR for adults. The free parking gets full quickly, so a nearby hotel offered parking for 5 EUR.
There are a couple of buffet/restaurants, but I was not really pleased with price and quality. There are a lot of extras you can rent: SUP, water bicycle, water jetpack, and there is a boat trip starting here.
Overall, it is a nice beach, but you should come early and prepared, if you are on a budget."

Understanding Liptovská Mara
The beach at Liptovský Trnovec is one of the main access points to the water. It's a natural, stony beach, which means it offers a more rugged and less manicured experience compared to sandy beaches. The water quality is generally good, and its coolness provides a welcome respite during hot Slovak summers. The expansive views of the Low Tatras and High Tatras mountain ranges from the lake are a major draw, creating a picturesque setting for visitors.
While the beach itself is relatively simple, the surrounding Liptovská Mara area offers more. Boat trips are a popular way to explore the reservoir, and various water sports rentals are available. The proximity to other attractions in the Liptov region, such as thermal parks and historical sites, makes it a convenient stop for a broader travel itinerary.
Navigating the Liptovský Trnovec Beach Experience
However, it's important to manage expectations regarding amenities. The beach is stony, so comfortable footwear is recommended. While there are food options, reviews suggest they might not be the highlight, leading many to recommend bringing your own provisions, especially for those on a budget. The water deepens quickly, which is great for swimmers but something to be mindful of with young children.
Despite the minor drawbacks, the overall sentiment is positive, with many calling it one of the best places to swim in Slovakia during hot weather. The combination of refreshing water, stunning mountain views, and a relaxed atmosphere makes it a worthwhile destination for a summer day out.
