What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find Turňa Castle Ruins to be a worthwhile destination primarily for its stunning panoramic views and the atmospheric experience, especially in the evenings. While the castle itself is largely in ruins, the hike is manageable and the opportunity to assist with restoration adds a unique dimension. Some find the path less marked than expected and caution is advised for families due to steep drops.
"As expected, judging by my visits to other Slovak castles and ruins, there really isn’t much to see here beyond the scenery. The castle itself is destroyed, leaving behind just a few scattered remnants. The path leading up to it—like many others in Slovakia—isn't exactly well-marked, so you'd definitely want to wear proper hiking shoes and aim for dry weather.
One cool thing is that you can actually help out the volunteers working on the restoration. They welcome people bringing sand or stones to assist with the project. That said, at this pace, the reconstruction could take even longer than the one at Červená Horka.
Overall, it’s worth coming here for the views—but that’s pretty much it."

"It's an amazing place where it's good to get back repeatedly.
20 minutes to go and a pleasant view for tens of kilometers. Every single visit it's different weather, light, and wind, but always outstanding."

"Really nice castle on top of the hill. It's a nice walk up, even ok for kids. The view from the top is great. The castle is quite broken, and some parts are under construction. Be careful with kids up there, there are some steep drop offs.
I recommend going there. The walk is worth it!
There is a free parking spot right next to the road. From there you walk towards the street and then to the left. From there you find signs that lead to the castle"

The Unforgettable Views
These views are particularly impactful during the late afternoon and evening. The atmospheric light, coupled with the evocative calls of ravens heading towards Zadielska dolina, creates a truly memorable and almost magical experience. Nevertheless, the overall consensus is that the vistas are a major highlight and a significant reason to make the trek up to the ruins.
