Reviews Summary

Visitors find Tonovcov Grad to be a pleasant hike with rewarding scenic views and interesting historical ruins, particularly the Byzantino church. While not a major tourist attraction, it's considered a worthwhile stop for its historical significance and beautiful panoramas, especially for those exploring the Kobarid area. Some note the trail can be steep and signage inconsistent.

"Nice hiking trail with some scenic spots along the way. It didn’t completely impress me, but it was still a pleasant walk and worth doing once. A good choice if you’re nearby and want a short, easy adventure."

Bud Snapdragon

"Worth the trek to see ruins of a Byzantino church and small settlement. Romans retreated to this high ground during the barbarian incursions; think Visigoths like Alaric, etc. Abandoned in the 7-9 C. AD. Beyond that it was a neolithic site and the views make it obvious why.
We scrambled straight up from the riverside (not recommended) through a kind of gorge. Terrible scrum through the bush, many scratches and oaths later we got to the top only to find a lovely path all the way down to Kobarid, which took us past the Italian First World War Monument built by Mussolini when Kobarid was called Caparetto. On the lighter side, our trek up the mountainside did allow us to see a pair of ibix up to their gravity-defying capers. But I would take the path from town next time. (The civilized path takes you through the Stations of the Cross on the way to the Ossuary and Chapel which was and is magnificent.)"

Bruce Robertson

"An amazing spot with a great view over the valley. It is quite a steep walk up the hill and it will take you around 15 minutes (mostly shadow). At the old church you can sit down and enjoy the breathtaking view."
