What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the breathtaking views and well-maintained trails of Clarens Village Nature Reserve. The unique Porcupine Path and rewarding Caracal Contour Route are highlights, offering accessible nature experiences. While generally positive, some note that the final descent to the dam can be tricky for novice hikers due to loose rocks.
"I spend most afternoons and weekends out on these trails. Right now, flowers are out everywhere, in yellows, reds, purples and blues. And the view of the village from up there is unparalleled. So many shades of green! I think any visitor or local who doesn't at least attempt the easy, short Spruit Walk is missing out on half of what Clarens has to offer. Many shops (and locals) can direct you and help you pay the ridiculously cheap permit fees."

"Short hike from Clarens town center, you will need a permit to enter. Well worth the effort, great views with fresh air. You can nearly hike all the way back to town on well maintained footpaths. Will do more exploring here in the future. The conservancy representative was very helpful and friendly. Paid via app so no need for cash."
Robert Truter
"Beautiful hike through the conservancy. Roundtrip over the mountain with beautiful views of Clarens. Total distance is 5km with about 240m elevation gain. You can buy your permit at most establishments in town."
