What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Burman Bush Nature Reserve for its beautiful, shaded trails and improved security, making it a peaceful urban escape. While some find the trails confusing, the free entry and dedicated staff are significant draws. Occasional issues with individual behavior have been noted, but overall, it's a well-maintained and enjoyable natural space.
"There’s a white woman in charge of the boot camp within the nature reserve, and her behavior was extremely disappointing. You’d swear she owns the land, when in fact it belongs to the municipality of KwaZulu-Natal. I had to give her a piece of my mind because the way she shouts at employees felt outdated, unprofessional, and completely unnecessary.
We don’t need this kind of behavior in our society. If you cannot serve people with respect and dignity, then perhaps it’s time to leave that job and seek a passion in another field. Everyone deserves to be treated with kindness, especially in a public space like this."

"Most of the negative reviews about security at this park date back over six years, from a time when it was indeed a concern. However, at the time of this review, security has significantly improved and is now excellent. The upper entrance is securely locked, while the lower entrance is well monitored by security personnel—some even accompanied by dogs.
The park itself is beautiful and suitable for both picnics and hiking. Do note that the hiking trail can be a bit confusing, so it’s a good idea to use a navigation app like Gaia GPS to stay on track."

"Burman Bush offers a decent trail within the city. It can be a bit confusing. The trail maps are not clear and the trails not fully marked. A section of the trail was washed away with no way past from the floods. I suggest not to go alone for security purposes although we found at least 6 security guards on site with dogs. We felt safe as a group of 3 guys."
