The real ones know that back then, DJ Bongz was making us move with timeless Durban grooves. “Sobuye S’bonane” was more than a farewell — it was a whole mood. Reminding us of love, life, and late nights on the dancefloor. 🔊💃🏾

Reviews Summary

Francis Farewell Square is recognized as a historically significant landmark in Durban, commemorating the city's first European settlement. Visitors appreciate its central location and the imposing presence of the Durban City Hall nearby. However, some reviews mention concerns about the safety of the surrounding area, particularly after dark, and note that the square itself receives limited attention.

"A historic and beautiful landmark in the center of Durban"

Mohammed Hoosen Ebrahim

"Pretty central park in front of the Durban City Hall commemorating British Lieutenant Farewell, the port's first settler. Farewell landed within the natural harbour, close to the park's current location, with an escort of a handful of settlers. The port was to be a British resupply port for ships journeying to The Raj, as well as a collection point for inland ivory trade. Albeit a landmark of colonial affiliation, the park is still an important remembrance for those initial settlers."

Rhyse Crompton

"This is a historical point. Lieutenant Francis Farwell together with Dr Henry fynn established the port of natal with six other sailors. For more information on this story watch the Shaka Zulu program on TV. I don't know why they named the city Durban as it was these two guys who were the first to establish Durban."
