What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Recife Lighthouse offers a unique experience with its historical significance and stunning natural beauty, particularly the sunset views from the top. However, visitors are dismayed by the significant litter and pollution, which detracts from the otherwise magnificent scenery. Efforts to clean the area are noted, but the problem persists.
"We were there yesterday. What a pity... this place has a magnificent scenery and then you start to walk.... what a desolate place, filled with trash. I was there 2 years ago.... and it is appalling that it is still in an absolute state of pollution. There are tyres everywhere.... people are allowed to fish.... I thought it was a nature reserve... we spent the entire day removing as many plastic trash as we could. And we filled up an entire large bin and it barely made a difference. There were so many fishing lines... and even a dead pijima shark with a line in his mouth... so sad. Please do something!"

Samantha Lange
"A beautiful villa in a wonderful, quiet setting with friendly and efficient staff. The lighthouse tour and coffee from Marize’s Cupcakes were also great! Thank you."

Information on public transport is scarce, and its remote location suggests it may not be easily accessible. It's advisable to check with local tourism providers for the most up-to-date transport advice.
As the location is remote, specific driving routes would depend on your starting point. GPS navigation is recommended, and be prepared for potentially unpaved or rougher roads as you get closer.

While the surrounding natural area is accessible, a tour to the top of the lighthouse may require tickets or a fee. It's recommended to check for any admission requirements or tour booking procedures.
Opening hours can vary, and some visitors mention Ashwin opening the lighthouse for sunset. It's best to confirm the specific operating hours for lighthouse tours in advance, especially if you plan to visit at a particular time.

Navigating the Raw Coastal Environment
However, a significant concern raised by visitors is the prevalence of pollution. Reports detail widespread trash, discarded fishing lines, and even the unfortunate discovery of deceased marine life. This environmental issue detracts from the natural splendor and has prompted some visitors to actively participate in clean-up efforts. It's a stark reminder of the impact human activity can have on even the most remote natural settings.
Travelers are advised to wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes due to the uneven and rocky ground. Be prepared for windy conditions and embrace the wild, natural beauty, while also being mindful of the environmental challenges.
