What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the breathtaking summit views and the unique Via Ferrata experience at Shelter Rock Magaliesberg. The well-marked trails and friendly owner, Corry, are frequently praised. However, some find the hike challenging due to heat and loose rocks, and the gravel road access requires careful driving.
"The length of the trail was 8k (4k up, 4k down), but don't underestimate the length of it since it was pretty challenging due to the scorching heat, the inclining of the trail, and the rocks on some parts were loose and slippery. Please come here as early as possible when they open. Make sure to bring lots of water, a hat, and apply some sunblock before you start.
In the middle of the trail, before you reach the top, you will see "Shelter Rock." You can climb it if you like, but well, it's at your own risk.
The trail was very well marked, and the view on top was absolutely breathtaking. All the heat, sweat, and pain paid off when you reached the top. One of the best panoramas in the North West for hiking experience.
The owner; Corry was very friendly; she explained everything about the place and trail patiently. In fact, she was informing us about the weather and about the road to avoid when we come back. For further information about plantations and some history about the trail, you can dig it through QR codes.
The entrance fee for the hike was R100 per person for adults, R50 per person for under 12 years old, under 6 years old is free. There was a super refreshing splash pool for you to get soaked in water after the tiring hike. The labyrinth hike is also available with no additional fee.
All in one, it was a superb hiking experience!"

"We did a 8 km hike but according to our walking app it's read 13 km.
This hike is for kids and also inexperienced hikers.Well marked trail up to the mountain.
Price R100 for a moderate hike. Not steep at all .But beautiful place on the ground.
The owner was very honest with us informing us of the night Hyenas which only comes out at night. Please be down before dark. Do drive slowly if you don't have a 4×4 as the
Gravel road is long to get to the place.Google shows it's about a 15mimw drive from Berlouri where we stayed but it took us 45mins with our Toyato Quest.
The road it's self isn't very bad at all but because of the gravel and we prefer to drive slowly."

You scan the QR code and you have all the relevant information on your phone. The information on the historical shelter rock is very interesting and is worth reading the history behind it"
