What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitor experiences at Phabeni Gate are mixed, with some praising the friendly staff and convenient access, while others report significant delays and poor service. While it offers quick entry to wildlife, potential queues and inconsistent service mean some travelers recommend alternative gates like Paul Kruger for a smoother experience.
"What a total disappointment entering Kruger Park via Phabeni Gate outside of Hazyview. After using this easily accessible entrance to Kruger for more than 8 years, this visit was a disaster.
On our 1st visit, the unfriendly ranger at the gate, after turning us away, supposedly because the Park was full, then point blank refused to give us a form to complete for the following day's visit. He was rude & obnoxious.
On returning early the next day, there was only one person assisting inside with form checking & payments. Being 2nd in the queue, we still waited for more than 20 minutes, as there appeared to be an issue with operating the computer.
On our 3rd day, we decided to enter via the Paul Kruger Gate, and what a different experience. Wonderful, efficient, friendly and very helpful ladies. This reminded us acutely of what our Phabeni Gate experiences used to be like. On sharing our bad experience with the ladies at Paul Kruger Gate, they admitted that we were not the 1st to complain about the poor service. Their comments were that their Gate was becoming more and more popular & busy, as many visitors were complaining about Phabeni Gate & making use of Paul Kruger instead. Another interesting comment from them was that management at Phabeni was poor, & that staff training was bad.
My advice would be, use Paul Kruger Gate."
