"We visited Joy Jozi with high expectations after hearing it’s a top family-friendly restaurant in Johannesburg, but unfortunately it did not live up to the hype.
The entry fee for children (R100) felt unreasonable considering the limited play equipment available. The space is crowded and chaotic, with no real facilities suitable for toddlers. For our 2-year-old, there was nothing age-appropriate to play with.
We were also surprised to find no toddler-friendly food on the menu—no purees, soft options, or even basic items like plain rice or steamed vegetables. There were no children’s cutlery or bowls, either. Staff did not offer alternatives or assistance in this regard.
As for the adult meals, the food was mediocre and overpriced. Flavors were underwhelming, and plating seemed rushed. Overall, the menu lacks creativity and fails to match the venue’s popularity.
The venue was packed, likely because it’s a well-known brand in a prime location, but it feels like it’s coasting on reputation rather than delivering quality experiences—especially for families with younger children.
