"Built on the Bukhan River from 1939 to 1944 during the Japanese colonial period, the Cheongpyeong Hydroelectric Power Plant is the first dam in the Han River system. With a capacity of 79,000 kW and an average output of 35,000 kW, it is managed by Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power. This concrete gravity dam stands 31 m high, has a 470 m embankment length, a total water storage capacity of 1.85 million tons, 24 sluice gates, and a maximum discharge of 22,240 m3/sec, with a water surface area of 12.5 km2. In the 1970s, the Cheongpyeong Lake area became a prominent tourist destination in the Seoul metropolitan area, attracting luxury villas for wealthy individuals. In 1980, an artificial reservoir, Homyeong Lake, was constructed near the summit of nearby Homyeong Mountain. This allowed for pumped-storage power generation by pumping water from Cheongpyeong Lake to Homyeong Lake, utilizing idle power. The water head between Homyeong Lake and Cheongpyeong Lake is 550 m."
