The challenging hikes, particularly the numerous stairs, are a significant aspect of the experience, offering a good workout. However, accessibility without a personal vehicle can be difficult due to infrequent public transport.
"A very steep 4.4km climb (mostly stairs to Yeongbong Peak but great views at the top.
We parked at the Deokjusa Temple parking lot, The start of the trail is signposted and a detailed map (in English and Korean). Follow the trail up many, many stairs, 2.4km to Maaebong Peak. Then continue another 2.4km up some very steep stairs , to 1,097m of Yeongbong Peak. This took us about 2.5hours up (with a short lunch break) and about 2 hours to get back down.
It is windy at the top. Well signposted the whole way."

"Woraksan is a beautiful national park overlooking the reservoir from the Chungju Dam as well as countless beautiful mountains. The hiking here is good, not too difficult but not too easy, and the views are quite nice.
Although it is relatively close to Seoul, if you don't have your own personal vehicle it is one of the more difficult national parks to visit, as it sits over 30km from the closest transportation hub, and bus service is sporadic at best. I'd recommend taking a cab from Chungju to the Bodeokam area and starting there, because bus and taxi services are far more accessible on the Deokjusa side of the park. Certainly worth the effort to visit"

"You are scrambling up a mountain after all so expect a lot of stairs and rails. Good runners or hiking boots recommended. Not for those with fear of heights."
