What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Makgeolli classes are overwhelmingly praised for their immersive and educational experience, with instructors often highlighted for their passion and expertise. Participants rave about learning to brew their own authentic rice wine and the delightful tastings. The main drawback is the inability to take home your brew if traveling internationally due to biosecurity.
"Learning how to make Makgeolli at Baekusaeng is a highlight of any trip to Seoul. If you have not tried Makgeolli then this is a great start and if you have, then this is an excellent education in why much of the commercial Makgeolli is just not worth your precious drinking time and money.
Real and carefully brewed Makgeolli is just so much better.
Joe teaches a great class both as introductory and advanced brewing and the 2-hour introduction class comes with plenty of tastings and the core skills - as well as your own first batch.
My recommendation - come early in your trip so that you can enjoy the fruits of your labour while still in the country - particularly if like me you are from Australia where you would not be able to bring a live fermentation culture through biosecurity.
Fantastic day, would enthusiastically recommend it!"

"This was my second time back at Baekgusaeng, this time with a Makkgeolli + Soju tasting, after a fantastic Makkgeolli making class 2 years ago! We made sure to come back because we love Joe's energy, mission, and passion for the craft. We always learn so much each time we visit, highly recommend any of the classes! His makkgeolli is legitimately the best we've had in Korea, and when we've also made it back home (with some video guidance), our friends raved about it compared to store-bought ones. Thank you, Joe!!"

"Amazing class, super informative. Joe is very experienced and passionate. He told us about different types of makgeolli and had us taste them. We also got a taste of his makgeolli which in my opinion is superb! Then we made our own which was lots of fun. He even send us notes about the class via email afterwards. I highly recommend this class!"
