What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Cafe Onion Seongsu is celebrated for its striking industrial ambiance and an impressive array of delicious, freshly baked pastries. While many praise the aesthetic and taste, some visitors note that prices are on the higher side and the maintenance of the space could be improved. Despite minor drawbacks, it remains a highly recommended spot for its unique vibe and quality baked goods.
"Cafe Onion offers a great variety of freshly baked bread, and most of the pastries taste really good. The space has a stylish, aesthetic vibe that attracts many visitors. However, the prices are on the higher side, likely because the café has become quite hyped up and turned into a popular spot for tourists and café hoppers. Still, it’s a nice place to visit if you enjoy good pastries and a trendy atmosphere."

"We were there within two hours of its opening and the pastries we chose tasted fresh and complimented well with our coffee. I did not appreciate the atmosphere. While I get the look the cafe was going for, it felt more run-down and not well-maintained than expected - there were dried coffee stains all along the long table where we were seated, the walls seemed dirty, several of the seats were rocky, and the toilet was rather dirty. There was an open-space on the rooftop as well which looked nice but it was too cold for us that day (and be mindful of the steep steps). Overall, the food and service was good, but could not fully appreciate the vibe."

"Visited here early at about 8:30am on a Monday morning and it wasn’t too crowded.
Tried a range of breads for a group of 3 and unfortunately couldn’t finish all of them. Had tasted the signature Pandoro which is aesthetically pleasing like a mountain and tastes light with a fluffy texture similar to a cake but in bread form. Worth a try but we couldn’t finish it.
The one that surprised me most was the chocolate covered salt bread which was a lovely mix of sweet and savoury flavours. We also enjoyed the chili hot dog bread and bulgogi pastry which had good savoury flavours.
The others, including the five cheese bread (mainly liked only by one of us) and dark chocolate brownie with cream cheese were a bit more underwhelming. The cheese lacked flavour and would have been served better hot such that the cheese is melty and more aromatic. The brownie was drier and harder than expected and whilst it complemented the cream cheese, was something you can easily recreate at home or elsewhere.
I did like the vanilla bean latte which was uniquely sweet for a coffee!
Overall, I think this cafe is more for the aesthetics. Worth a try, but I would not be returning again."

The aesthetic appeal is undeniable, making it a popular spot for photos and social media content.

A Pastry Lover's Dream
The signature Pandoro bread is a standout, often described as visually striking and having a light, cake-like texture. Other popular choices include the Valrhona chocolate croissant, generously filled with melted chocolate, and various savory breads like the chili hot dog bread and bulgogi pastry. While most items are highly praised for their taste and presentation, some reviews suggest that certain items, like the five cheese bread or brownies, might be less remarkable compared to the stars of the show.
Despite the delicious offerings, visitors should be aware that the prices are on the higher side. This is a common characteristic of popular, trend-setting cafes in Seoul, where the unique ambiance and quality ingredients contribute to the cost. However, for many, the experience of enjoying these artisanal treats in such a distinctive setting is well worth the splurge.
