Reviews Summary

Visitors find the Roman Theatre Pollentia to be a well-preserved and historically significant site, offering a great cultural alternative to beach days. The affordable entry fee and the included museum visit are highly praised. However, the lack of shade and intense sun exposure, especially during summer afternoons, is a common drawback, making early morning or late afternoon visits essential.

"Part of the archaeological complex in Alcudia. Well preserved Roman theatre definitely worth seeing.

Beware, that reaching the theatre involves several hundred meters of walking from the rest of the complex and the route (as the whole complex) offers practically no shade, so it can be very hot with a huge exposure to sunlight. So dress accordingly!"

Henri Salmi (Henkka)

"A nicly structured walk among the ruins with interesting ecplonations and audio gude that has aditional informations, you need mobile internet since it you need to scan qr codes, but it is free.
It is quite cheep it was only 4 eur for an adult and 2,50 for a child.
I think if you read and listen to everithing it takes arraound 1-2 hours.
I would recomend it to anyone how wnats some cultural promgram to break the endles beach days."

Tamás Kovács

"I really enjoy these historic finds and archaeological digs, there’s still so much to find.
This site covers quite a large expanse of land and requires about 20 minutes of walking.
I’m here in June, mid afternoon and it’s very hot, bring a hat and water. Or come early on.
The entrance fee is €4 which does include a visit to the Museum over the road which has some excellent finds and depictions
There is the site of the town, the square and amphitheatre, also is a burial site and well. Many more things they know about and need to dig.
An interesting hour or 2.
Parking close by."

The History of Pollentia

Pollentia was a significant Roman city founded in 123 BC, serving as the capital of the Balearic Islands during Roman rule. Its strategic location made it a vital port and administrative center. The city was built on a grid system, typical of Roman urban planning, and boasted impressive public buildings, residential areas, and infrastructure.

The archaeological site today reveals the remnants of this once-flourishing settlement. Visitors can explore the Forum, the heart of public life, the residential quarter (La Portella) with its well-preserved mosaics, and the necropolis (burial site). The Roman Theatre, though not as grand as some on the mainland, offers a clear understanding of Roman entertainment venues. Instagram+1

Pollentia's importance waned with the decline of the Roman Empire, and it was eventually abandoned. The site lay buried for centuries, preserving its remains until archaeological excavations began to uncover its rich past. Today, it stands as a crucial window into the Roman presence in Mallorca, offering a tangible connection to ancient history. Instagram
