Reviews Summary

Visitors appreciate the free entry and the well-preserved Roman remains, offering a glimpse into ancient life. The site is particularly interesting for those with a passion for Roman history. However, some find the visible ruins less extensive than anticipated, and the English translations on signage can be a bit quirky. Reddit

"Very fortunate to have this roman remains so close to Madrid. Just a 30 minutes drive from downtown Madrid.

It is specially well preserved and has a lot of information in all of its important landmarks.

Free entrance."

"Very interesting for people interested in Ancient Rome. There's a lot left to be excavated, but what is there is great. We also had a great conversation with one of the archeologists that is temporarily working there, José Antonio Galante. Super nice and gave us lots of great tips about the town of Alcalá. Also it is FREE ENTRANCE. Some of the signage has faded, but there are a lot of them with (slightly questionable) English translations. Sketchy translations aside, this site is highly recommended."

Lisa Harer de Calvo

"The remains of the centre of great city of Complutum, once in Roman Hispania the capital of the region, is roughly 50% of what was not covered by new building that you see nearby. In Roman times there were many suburbs around this area.

Complutum was built in the first century CE. Construction started under the reign of Emperor Augustus.

The remains are from the standard features of the centre of a Roman town like the temple, forum, bathhouse, shops and buildings of the upper class.

The House of the Griffins is inside a large hall to protect the delicate paintings on the walls

Unfortunately in winter the mosaics in other parts are covered tom protect them from the weather

Information panels are both in Spanish and English.

When I visited, early January, the entrance was free but that may have had to do with the holiday season."
