Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Casa Juanita Arrieta for its striking beauty and deeply moving history. While it's a private home, its picturesque blue facade and seaside location make it a beloved landmark for photos and quiet reflection.

"A very pretty little house right by the sea with a moving history. It was built in the early 20th century by a couple for their terminally ill daughter so she could spend the last years of her life there. Highly recommended!"

Marco Gräb

"Review dated 01/07/18

La Juanita undoubtedly represents the most picturesque building in Arrieta and probably in the entire island of Lanzarote. Despite its atypical nature and bright colours, this house hides a somewhat moving story. It was built during the early 1900s by a wealthy couple with the hope that the house, located close to the ocean, could provide healing benefits to their daughter suffering from tuberculosis. Little Juana died in 1921 within those same walls which today, approximately a century after their construction, remain only and invariably the object of photographs and questions from many curious tourists."

The Poignant Story of Casa Juanita

Casa Juanita Arrieta, affectionately known as the 'Blue House,' is more than just a picturesque building; it's a monument to love and loss. Built in the early 1900s by a wealthy couple, its purpose was deeply personal: to provide a healing environment for their daughter, Juana, who was suffering from tuberculosis. They believed the proximity to the ocean and the fresh sea air would aid her recovery. Sadly, Juana passed away within its walls in 1921, leaving behind a legacy of a home filled with both hope and sorrow.

Today, the house remains a significant landmark in Arrieta, drawing visitors who are moved by its history. Its vivid blue facade, set against the dramatic backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean, makes it an unforgettable sight. Many tourists stop to take photos and contemplate the enduring story of the family who built it. The house serves as a quiet reminder of life's fragility and the enduring power of human connection. Photography Tips for the Blue House

The Casa Juanita Arrieta Blue House is a photographer's delight, offering a unique subject against the stunning Lanzarote coastline. For the best shots, timing is key. Aim for the 'golden hours' – the period shortly after sunrise or before sunset. During these times, the light is softer, casting a warm glow on the blue facade and creating beautiful reflections on the water. This is when the house truly comes alive visually. TikTok

When composing your shots, consider framing the house with the ocean as a backdrop. Look for interesting angles along the shoreline; sometimes a slightly elevated perspective or a shot from further down the coast can offer a more dramatic composition. Don't forget to capture the details – the texture of the paint, the windows, and the surrounding natural elements. The contrast between the man-made structure and the wild beauty of the sea is what makes this location so special. Reddit
