Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the Iglesia de San Juan Bautista for its magnificent Neo-Gothic architecture and intricate details, calling it the most impressive piece of architecture in Gran Canaria. The surrounding town is also noted for its charm. Some visitors found the entrance fee and afternoon closures inconvenient.

"The cathedral is magnificent, so detailed and made of beautiful stone. The area around it is also very beautiful with benches you can relax on and admire the building. We couldnt find the entrance, it seemed closed when we visited. On the other side there was a stage set up so you cant view the cathedral well from all sides. There's a large free parking right next to it so its really easy to visit. Easily the most impressive piece of architecture in Gran Canaria. The surrounding streets also very charming."

Spela Kaluza

"Even just seeing it from outside (closed because of a holiday), the trip is definitely worth it. Beautiful architecture and interesting history. It is for sure a sight to behold. Many great spots to grab a drink and enjoy the view."

Diana Boeșan

"Lovely cathedral. Amazing structure and architecture.
Church of St. John the Baptist in Arucas.

Construction began on 19 March 1909, and took over 68 years. The church was opened for public worship in 1917, but the construction continued until 1977, when the church was completed. Due to the large dimensions, it is usually referred to as The Arucas Cathedral even though it is not a cathedral.

Rose window is often used as a generic term applied to a circular window, but is especially used for those found in Gothic cathedrals and churches. The windows are divided into segments by stone mullions and tracery. The term rose window was not used before the 17th century and comes from the English flower name rose."
