Reviews Summary

Visitors are captivated by the Palacio de Balsera's unique, fairytale-like architecture, especially its distinctive tower and ornate interiors. While its current function as a music conservatory means interior access can be limited, its historical significance and aesthetic appeal make it a noteworthy landmark in Avilés. Reddit

"Beautiful palace with great tower. Not sure about the style although some claim is art noveau. It is definitely a very eclectic building with fairytale touches. The palace of Balsera was built in the early 20th Century for a rich local business man. Apparently the owner, Fernandez Balsera created a great fortune during the first world war on the basis of the neutrality of the country. These days the palace is owned by the city and it hosts the local School of Music. The palace used to have an amazing French garden but they are replaced by some blocks of flats. Inside is very beautiful too, specially the main staircase. Apparently the palace has a ghost!"

"I have spent many wonderful years enjoying recitals in this beautiful, historic building located on Galiana in the heart of old Aviles."

Sandra Baigrie

"The Balsera Palace is one of those buildings that leaves no one indifferent.
The Balsera or Sendón Palace is located in the town of Avilés. Once a private residence, it currently houses the Julián Orbón Municipal Music Conservatory.
This palace was built at the beginning of the 20th century, probably in 1917, by the Pontevedra architect Antonio Palacios for Victoriano Fernández Balsera, a wealthy merchant from Avilés. The building, "halfway between modernism and eclecticism," is characterized by "an interesting interplay of ascending volumes, from the curved chamfer at the corner to the slender, historicist-inspired tower."
It is lavishly decorated, and the interior is perfectly preserved.
It was declared a Site of Cultural Interest with Monument status on October 3, 1991."
