Reviews Summary

Casa Milà is widely admired for its unique Gaudí architecture, particularly its surreal rooftop and organic facade. While some find the interior less captivating than other Gaudi sites for the price, the overall experience is considered a must-see for its artistic and historical significance. Visitors often recommend booking tickets in advance and considering evening visits for a better experience.

"A unique building by Gaudí with a fascinating design. The wavy stone facade and the rooftop are simply stunning. The guided tour was informative and gave me great insights.
Super easy to get tickets on the spot, didn't have to wait."

Natalia Hernandes

"The building is beautiful and worth a visit. Most staff were very friendly—except for one unpleasant experience.

When I couldn’t find the audio guide drop-off point after the tour, I walked into the gift shop. A woman with long black hair quickly approached me and very rudely motioned for me to hand over the guide. I gave it to her right away and said I didn’t know where to return it. Instead of answering, she just dropped it on the floor. It might have been an accident, but she clearly had no intention of picking it up. I ended up doing it for her.

It’s a shame—such a beautiful place, but she seemed completely unhappy being there. I actually feel sorry for her. If she’s this unhappy with her job, maybe it’s time for a change."

Yiwen Liang

"This place is beautiful as most of Barcelona is. I’ve been before back in 2023 and the tour was more free and you could take your time and there was more to see. This time I went in march 2025 but it was guided by a tour guide and it was more rushed?? Not sure why it had changed but it was still very pretty and fun. I do recommend keeping this lower on your itinerary as Casa Batlló is a more enjoyable experience in my opinion"

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

Antoni Gaudí's Vision at Casa Milà

Casa Milà, also known as La Pedrera, is a testament to Antoni Gaudí's unique architectural style, heavily influenced by nature. Completed in 1912, it was commissioned by Pere Milà and Roser Segimon. Gaudí moved away from straight lines, opting for organic, flowing forms that mimic natural elements like waves, caves, and plants. The building's quarry-like facade, hence the nickname 'La Pedrera' (the stone quarry), is a prime example of this inspiration. TikTok

The interior design is equally innovative, featuring curved walls, wrought-iron balconies resembling seaweed, and a central courtyard designed to maximize natural light and ventilation. Gaudí's attention to detail extended to every aspect, from the doorknobs to the furniture, creating a harmonious and functional living space. The building is not just a residential block but a work of art that pushed the boundaries of architectural design in its time. TikTok

Visitors can explore the Espai Gaudí in the attic, which showcases Gaudí's structural innovations through 270 parabolic arches, and a reconstructed apartment furnished in the style of the early 20th century. The rooftop terrace is arguably the most iconic part, with its surreal, sculptural chimneys that have become a symbol of Barcelona. TikTokReddit

Navigating the Crowds and Experience

Many visitors find that Casa Milà, like other popular Gaudí sites, can be quite crowded, especially during peak hours. Redditors often advise booking tickets in advance to bypass long queues, a sentiment echoed by many travelers. Reddit Some suggest that visiting during sunset hours can offer a more serene experience, with the added bonus of beautiful lighting and city views. TikTokReddit

While the architecture is universally praised, some reviews mention that the interior, beyond the rooftop and attic, might feel less impactful compared to the exterior or other Gaudí masterpieces like Casa Batlló, especially given the ticket price. Reddit However, the Espai Gaudí in the attic is consistently highlighted as a fascinating section for understanding Gaudí's engineering prowess. Reddit

To make the most of your visit, consider dedicating ample time to the rooftop, as it's a truly unique and photogenic space. TikTok The overall experience is one of awe at Gaudí's genius, but managing expectations regarding crowds and comparing it to other sites can help tailor your visit. Reddit
