What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Guests rave about the Kimpton Vividora's unbeatable Gothic Quarter location and the stunning Terraza de Vivi rooftop bar. The hotel's stylish design and warm, welcoming staff, particularly individuals like Facu and Olga, are frequently praised for making stays memorable. However, some visitors feel the property doesn't quite live up to a true 5-star luxury standard, citing issues with room amenities, noise, and occasional service lapses in specific areas.
"Amazing experience at Kimpton Vividora Barcelona! The hotel is super cool, beautifully designed, and perfectly located to enjoy the city. The vibe is warm and welcoming, and everything feels thoughtfully curated.
Special shoutout to Facu, who truly went above and beyond to accommodate all our requests. Always friendly, professional, and incredibly helpful, he really made our stay extra special.
Would absolutely stay here again. Highly recommended! I’ll definitely come back"

"Very central location in the gothic quarter, great front desk and restaurant staff. Nice daily breakfast spread that includes an à la cart menu and a continental buffet. We booked through AMEX and the perks were well explained upon check-in. There is also a daily happy hour, while we didn’t partake in it, we heard it was quite popular from fellow guests.
For what it’s worth, while the rooms are clean, updated, an overall good value - it is not a “luxury 5-star” property. So just bear that in mind. We booked a balcony suite on the 6th floor that was fairly spacious (especially for older parts of town) with a separate shower and tub. It did lack closet and storage, might be ok for a few nights, but no more. The in-room Nespresso machine came in handy, as we fully took advantage of the balcony and enjoyed a few morning coffees outside.
PSA1: Something that did not sit well with me was that while having a drink at the lobby bar, I noticed the bartender and a non-bar staff would use bare hands to handle the ice directly out of the ice machine. This could be cultural standards, but it is not sanitary to me and especially not at a “5-star” hotel.
PSA2: Our room ended up being right across from the elevator, so we could hear every conversation outside our door at all hours, so would not recommend rooms near elevators. Unfortunately, all suites were booked during our stay, so there was no option to change to a similar grade room.
PSA3: Cars will not be able to pull up to the hotel entrance as it is down a very narrow pedestrian street, so expect a short walk upon arrival (we knew this ahead of time, it was not an inconvenience at all). The front desk staff was kind to assist with our check out…as they can work with the taxis to pull up to the main entrance to better assist us with luggage."

"This property is nowhere near the 5-star standard it claims. The AC didn’t work, I asked several times for it to be fixed, which they claim they did and I couldn’t sleep for three nights. The rooms are cramped and they refused to honor my Amex hotel collection or Platinum Elite upgrade even though their own site showed better rooms available.
The bathroom design and weak water pressure feel like a budget motel.
The breakfast is lacking even for a European hotel. They put tomatoes in my fiancé’s omelette even though it wasn’t listed, and he’s allergic. When we flagged it, the staff didn’t care and got annoyed, asking him to list every ingredient he could have instead of simply correcting their mistake.
The rooftop noise echoed through the courtyard all night.
Don’t bother trying the ground floor cafe, the coffee bar staff didn’t want to make a drink and asked if I could go without as they would have to call someone who knew how to make it.
Kimptons aren’t true 5-star properties, but this one is especially bad and the management needs training."

For Different Travelers
Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
However, families should be mindful of room sizes and storage, as some rooms might feel cramped for multiple people or extended stays. The hotel's chic ambiance might also mean less emphasis on dedicated kid-friendly amenities compared to larger, family-focused resorts. It's advisable to book a larger room or suite if traveling with children and to confirm any specific family services with the hotel directly.
💰 Budget-Conscious Travelers
To maximize value, consider booking through loyalty programs or travel agents that offer perks, as mentioned in reviews. Utilizing the hotel's cafe for a quick breakfast or coffee can also be more economical than dining out for every meal. The rooftop bar, while a splurge, offers incredible views that can be a memorable experience without needing to book a full meal.
🥂 Couples & Romantic Getaways
Its location in the historic Gothic Quarter allows for charming evening strolls through ancient streets, adding to the romantic ambiance. Booking a room with a balcony can enhance the experience, offering a private space to enjoy morning coffee or evening wine together. The hotel's attentive staff also contribute to a seamless and enjoyable stay for couples.

The Allure of Terraza de Vivi
Beyond the views, the bar serves a selection of tapas, perfect for a light meal or sharing with friends. The atmosphere is often described as vibrant, especially as evening approaches. While generally accessible, it's wise to consider making a reservation during peak times to secure a good spot. The experience here is a key reason many choose the Kimpton Vividora for their Barcelona stay.
Navigating the Gothic Quarter Location
However, this prime location comes with logistical challenges. The narrow, pedestrianized streets mean that cars, including taxis, cannot always pull directly up to the hotel entrance. This requires guests to be prepared for a short walk with their luggage upon arrival and departure. While some find this inconvenient, many embrace it as part of the authentic Barcelona experience, noting that the front desk can assist with coordinating taxis for easier departures.
Despite the access considerations, the proximity to major attractions like the Barcelona Cathedral, Las Ramblas, and the Picasso Museum makes the Gothic Quarter an incredibly desirable place to stay. The hotel's central position allows for spontaneous exploration and easy access to a plethora of dining and shopping options.
Room Comforts and Considerations
However, it's important to manage expectations regarding the 'luxury 5-star' claim. Some reviews indicate that while the rooms are good, they might not meet the highest luxury standards, particularly concerning space and storage. For longer stays, the lack of closet space in some rooms could be a minor drawback. Additionally, the bathroom design and water pressure have been noted by some as less than ideal.
Guest comfort is also influenced by room placement. Reports suggest that rooms located directly across from elevators can be noisy due to hallway conversations. Therefore, if booking, it's advisable to request a room away from high-traffic areas to ensure a more peaceful experience.
