What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Sharma Climbing Barcelona is praised for its impressive size, challenging routes, and dedicated training facilities, making it a top spot for experienced climbers. However, some visitors note issues with air quality due to chalk dust and a potentially confusing route grading system for beginners, along with a cumbersome initial check-in process.
"The gym is big, with apparently a lot of routes. In reality, a lot of the routes had numbers (25, for example), which I can assume was after a competition? As a beginner to medium climber, this didn't help at all.
The holds are soooo dirty. I'm not sure they were cleaned...ever? It felt like I was climbing on a hill made of powder. Again, I am not an expert climber, so pros might not have a problem with that, but to me, it was terrible.
The air quality in the evening was insanely bad. It felt like walking into a sand storm.
And the check in process is terrible. You have to fill in a form, then download an app, then have that app validated at reception - all for a one time entry.
Really the only plus was how big the gym was, though, again, for a beginner, that doesn't matter, since there were barely any beginner routes, contrary to what I found on the website. I could see perhaps 2 whites? And maybe 3 blues?
Not sure about the area, but there are many more modern and clean bouldering gyms you can go to in the city for a better experience, especially for a novice climber."

"The gym itself is impressive, spacious for Barcelona, with great routes and consistent grading.
The installations are quite new, with auto-belays available and a nice musculation area equipped with modern machines.
However, there’s a serious downside: the air quality. There’s almost no proper ventilation or air renewal system. Even though powdered chalk is officially banned outside of the lead area (and liquid chalk is supposed to be mandatory), in practice, nobody enforces this rule. Powder chalk is used everywhere, and during peak hours the air becomes thick and almost unbreathable. This also causes cleanliness issues as chalk settles on everything and forms a layer of dust, especially on the upper floor.
As someone with mild asthma, I could barely stay for more than 45 minutes without feeling discomfort.
It’s disappointing, in 2025, you would expect a modern gym to take air quality and health standards seriously. Poor ventilation and unchecked chalk use aren’t just uncomfortable; they’re a real health concern for regular climbers, staff and children."

"Beautiful gym for real climbers. Great route setting, big, challenging, creative. Super friendly staff. Even a bar inside if you're into that. Only downside is you have to download another app to enter."
