What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find the Church of Sant Pere to be a beautiful, historic site in the heart of Begur's old town. While its exterior is plain, the interior offers a surprisingly spacious and atmospheric experience with notable Gothic influences. It's appreciated as a peaceful, free attraction that's deeply connected to the village's everyday life.
"Església de Sant Pere is a beautiful, historic church located right in the heart of Begur’s old town. It looks very simple from the outside with its plain stone façade and minimal decoration but its interesting inside. This church has a deep and fascinating history that stretches back to the 12th century. The interior surprised me — much more spacious and atmospheric than expected. You can still see the Gothic influences from its major expansion in the 1600s, especially in the arches and vaulted ceilings. There’s also a second side nave added in the 18th century, dedicated to Santa Reparada (thats I have never heard of before) one of Begur’s patron saints (patron of coral foshermen).
Outside along the north wall, there’s a long stone bench called El Pedrís Llarg, which has been used by locals for generations. It’s a simple but beautiful reminder that this church isn’t just a historic monument — it’s been a part of everyday village life for centuries.
Sadly, some of the original furnishings were lost during the Spanish Civil War, but the atmosphere remains peaceful and full of character. I loved how it blends different architectural styles and time periods while still feeling very much like the soul of the village. Free entry a d worth a look if you are are around. Nearby few coffee places and ice creams cafes with the church view."

"Eglésia de Sant Pere de Begur is located in the historic center of the town. It is possible to walk in to visit when there is not a service in progress. Compared to other structures of the same kind, this one is average. If you pass by and stop in, you won’t need much time."

"Didn't actually go inside church, but Begur is the most wonderful town to visit. Very pretty Spanish streets, with a breathtaking view at the top of one of them. Great restaurants and cafe's too, a special mention goes to Carbor. We ate here twice in one week. Food and service excellent."

A Glimpse into History
Further development occurred in the 18th century with the addition of a second side nave. This newer section is dedicated to Santa Reparada, one of Begur's patron saints, particularly revered by coral fishermen. This layering of architectural styles—from its earliest foundations to the 18th-century additions—tells a story of the town's growth and evolving religious practices.
