"One of the most beautiful early 20th-century Modernist facades in Cartagena. Nothing remains of the interior (it's a bank), but it's worth stopping to observe the details of the facade and the grand entrance. Interestingly, the Café España used to be located on the ground floor of the building, whose specialty included suspiros (sweets made from egg white, sugar, and almonds). While Maestro Álvarez Alonso was in the city, he composed a score he named "Suspiros de España," inspired by the café's sweets."
