Going for the first time this summer. We're going to San Sebastiàn, then head to Rioja. What hotels do you love? What should we do in 2-3 days at each place?

What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Guests rave about the Parador's incredible historic atmosphere and stunning coastal views, especially from the Mirador suites. While the lack of a restaurant and basic breakfast are noted drawbacks, the charm of the ancient fortress and the proximity to Hondarribia's vibrant pintxos scene are significant draws. Service can be inconsistent, but the unique setting often makes up for minor inconveniences.
"Ok this is tricky. We were in a group which is a factor.
It's a 4 star place allegedly. However there is no restaurant, the bar closes at 10pm, and breakfast is basic. The rooms are ok but not big and they turn off aircon in autumn, but there is a big ceiling fan.
It's the service that's an issue. Some staff are friendly and clearly try (reception staff were great) but there is a significant minority that don't want to serve people (notable was the short white haired woman). I don't appreciate not getting the 2 breakfast items I ordered and the plate thrown onto the table, on 2 days. Bar staff served well but looked like they hated every minute.
I remembered Paradores are government owned so maybe staff are civil servants so can't be fired even if terrible at their job.
Anyway, it's in a good location, the airport nearby is not an issue as so little used, a dthe building is interesting with a lovely view from the terrace to Hendaye (just don't expect a drink there)."

"A bit pricey, but worth the splurge!!! From start to finish, we enjoyed our stay in a junior suite with the "mirador", the only room with section of the room a glass balcony with an amazing view of the bay!
Hotel staff were professional and welcoming and escorted us to our room on the 3rd floor. It felt like royalty. Quiet, secluded, clean and equipped with an espresso maker and electric tea kettle, coffee pods, assorted teas and bottled water .
An amazing buffet breakfast in an elegant and scenic dining room."

"Great location, charm and views.
However it has NO RESTAURANT (we were proudly told it is the only one....) Bear that in mind when booking. We were there fiesta practice night and every bar was full.... Ended up with a sandwich in the tiny cafeteria....
Parking - limited and GPS can lie!
Staff were good, accomodation was nice. Very 'Parador'.
Worth a visit."
