What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise San Martiño de Duio Church for its beautiful baroque architecture and historical significance, particularly its connection to the Codex Calixtino. It's a cherished stop for pilgrims seeking a stamp and a moment of reflection. While generally well-received, the variable opening hours due to volunteer staffing can sometimes be a minor inconvenience.
"Beautiful baroque 18th Century Catholic Church, to the left hand side of altar on internal wall there's the original date of construction which is carved into stone, 1707.
According to the 12th Century Codex Calixtino the old town of Dugium was submerged here. This was the place where Santiago's disciples visited to request his burial and were denied and imprisoned.
The way to Muxía or Finisterre pases here too so it's nice for pilgrims to know that volunteers now open the church in the morning so you can now see inside of it."

"Thank you for the brief moments we shared, Father John Paul Britto Celestine.
(Appointed on August 16, 2021, and installed on September 5 of that year. He belongs to the Servants of Charity Congregation, founded by Saint Luigi Guanella in 1908 (Como, Italy). He is the first non-Spanish parish priest and a native of India.)"
