Reviews Summary

Puebla Vieja offers a charming historical walk with beautiful bay views, though some visitors note that the Rastrillar Fort and surrounding areas could benefit from better maintenance and upkeep. Despite some areas showing wear and tear, the historical significance and scenic beauty make it a worthwhile visit for those exploring Laredo.

"Nice walk with incredible views"

Maria Galamperna

"It's a short half-hour walk from Plaza de Carlos V, with a few steps and a bit of an uphill climb, but the views are beautiful. As for the fort, there are three reconstructed buildings, but they appear empty and seemingly without any functions or events..."

Cristina Rioja

"Despite the charm of climbing to this elevated point through the pretty streets of Laredo's old town, at the top you encounter the typical inauguration and investment that is subsequently inadequately maintained. The vegetation is rampant. There are too many signs indicating where you are, but only one explanatory sign. It's a shame that our history is so poorly exploited. On the other hand, the batteries lack canons. The viewing points are blocked by vegetation, and from them you can barely see why no one has controlled the vegetation in front of them. Filth abounds because toilet paper scraps are found, but this is more a problem derived from the lack of bathrooms and the inability of humans to contain their urination. Especially from one of their species, which hides to urinate and leaves its cellulose remains. The Powder Magazine below is undoubtedly chosen as the ladies' restroom. The views from the Caracola Viewpoint are good if you want to see how uncontrolled construction in natural environments destroys the coastline, with the De la Rosa de los vientos viewpoint obstructed by vegetation. The Santo Tomas and San Carlos batteries are not visible from them due to vegetation or height. If you're traveling with strollers or people using wheelchairs or crutches, take Regatillo Street, not through the cemetery, where there are only stairs."
