The staff here is very friendly.
The entrance is free.
Only 3 procent of this Roman Town has been excavated, it would be very interesting to see what more is laying just under the surface.
This town had a population of 10.000 people about 2.000 years ago.
Unfortunately the finds from this town is not to see here, but in a museum in Linares. I think its a shame and that it should be here in Castulo"
My Løiborg Palmqvist
"Cástulo is amazing. If only they had the budget to keep discovering the ancient remains, such as the beautiful "Mosaic of loves", this could be as well known as other Roman cities such as Merida or Itálica. Very commended for archeology and history fans. Beautiful landscapes all around too."

The interpretation center provides a good starting point to explain what they'll see. Consider packing snacks and drinks, as on-site facilities are limited. The Unexcavated Potential of Cástulo
This limited excavation is a double-edged sword. On one hand, it means the site offers a unique perspective on the potential of Roman settlements, allowing visitors to imagine the full extent of the city. On the other hand, it's a point of regret for many, who wish more of this incredible history could be brought to light and displayed on-site. The finds from Cástulo are primarily housed in the museum in Linares, a fact that some visitors feel detracts from the experience of the archaeological site itself.
Despite the unexcavated portions, the existing ruins and the interpretation center provide a compelling narrative. The 'Mosaic of Loves' is a particularly exquisite example of the artistry that once adorned Cástulo's homes and public buildings. Exploring the site allows for a tangible connection to the past, offering a glimpse into the daily lives and architectural sophistication of Roman Iberia.
Navigating Cástulo: Practicalities and Perspectives
However, travelers should be aware of the access road. While paved, the final stretch leading to the site can be narrow, requiring careful driving, especially for larger vehicles. This is a common point of mention among visitors, highlighting the need for cautious navigation. Comfortable footwear is also a must, as the archaeological site involves walking over uneven terrain.
Many visitors highlight the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, particularly security guards, who often go out of their way to enhance the visitor experience. This personal touch can significantly enrich a visit, turning a simple exploration into a memorable encounter. While the site itself might not have extensive amenities, the warmth of the people and the historical significance of the location make it a worthwhile destination.
