"On the edge of the city of Lleida, and known as the "Lung of Lleida" La Mitjana is a great area for walking, cycling, canoeing, going for a family picnic, and birding.
A lot of work has gone and still goes into its approximately 100 hectares of gallery woodland, maintaining paths, walkways, footbridges and waterways. It's popular with the inhabitants of Lleida, many of whom walk their dogs there or go jogging or cycling.
White and Black Poplar, willow, ash and tamarisk are the main trees and bushes, and together with the river Segre and the canal de Balaguer they attract a good number and variety of interesting birds. Woodpecker, for example, have become well-established, with Wryneck, Greater Spotted, Lesser Spotted and Iberian Green Woodpecker all possible. Then you have Golden Oriole, Common Kingfisher, Penduline Tit, White Stork, Eurasian Hoopoe and more to make a stroll through La MItjana with your binoculars a valid proposal if you are in the city."
