Reviews Summary
The Puente de Sagasta is praised for its modern architectural design, particularly its striking arches and impressive nighttime illumination. It's a functional and visually appealing landmark that enhances the Logroño landscape. However, some visitors note that it's a bit out of the way and can be a bit of a drive to reach, and there are concerns about speeding drivers on the bridge.
"Puente de Sagasta, Logroño, Spain
Puente de Sagasta, 26005 Logroño, La Rioja
One of the four main bridges in Logroño is the Puente de Sagasta or the Fourth Bridge (which indicates which one is the newest among them).
Its arches, filled with brackets that support the platforms, are the most striking feature of this bridge, making it an iconic symbol of the region’s landscape. It is located at the northernmost point of the river that flows through Logroño, connecting the swimming pool and sports field area with the famous island park.
Although everyone calls it the Fourth Bridge, its real name comes from Práxedes Mateo Sagasta, a civil engineer and politician born in Cameros Torrecilla. Práxedes Mateo Sagasta Bridge, commonly known as the Fourth Bridge of Logroño, is the newest bridge built over the Ebro River, which passes through Logroño.
The bridge has pedestrian and car areas, and the arches provide lighting at night, making the bridge an attractive nighttime visual spectacle.
The bridge is built over the Ebro River without any support, with a span of 140 m (meters) across both banks. The central deck, where the road is located, is 161 m long, 18.6 m wide and 2 m deep. It is supported by cable-stayed arches with a maximum height of 28 m. The structure of the arch is actually double-layered, consisting of two tubes with a diameter of 1.2 m, slightly inclined to each other to better withstand the bending forces to which they are subjected. The arch divides the traffic in both directions into two lanes of 3.5 m width each.
The pedestrian walkway consists of independent side panels of 4 m width and 1.1 m depth, which, unlike the road, do not run parallel to the central arch, but are separated from it in a curve.
There are several spotlights on the median, the pedestrian walkway and the riverbank to provide nighttime illumination of the complex."

"The bridge stands proud and shining. It knows it's competing for the hearts of the people with two giants, the iron bridge and the stone bridge downstream. It knows it's the first bridge the river encounters, and there are five. It knows its time will come. By day and by night too."
