Reviews Summary

Visitors find the Plaza de Toros Mijas to be a highly photogenic and historically interesting site, particularly appreciating its unique oval shape and stunning views. However, some guests have experienced inconsistent pricing and a lack of transparency regarding ticket costs and inclusions.

"I never understood how could be fun to risk your life by annoying bulls but I guess people in the past loved blood more than now, and for the toreadors the adrenaline was addictive. But leaving my opinions aside, this arena is beautiful and by night it turns into a bar with music and cocktails. The entrance is very nice and I think interesting to read for those who understand spanish. 😂
Overall, is a nice place to visit."

The Unique Architecture of Plaza de Toros Mijas

Unlike the typical circular bullrings found across Spain, the Plaza de Toros Mijas boasts a distinctive oval shape. This unique design is not merely aesthetic; it's deeply integrated into the natural landscape of Mijas Pueblo. Constructed in 1900, the arena is famously embedded into the rocky contours of the hillside, a feature that reflects the town's traditional architectural style and its harmonious relationship with its environment. This integration makes it a truly one-of-a-kind structure. Instagram+1

The bullring's construction in 1900 places it among the older arenas in Spain, adding a significant layer of historical value. While it may be smaller than some of the grander bullrings, its charm lies in its intimate scale and its picturesque setting. The arena's design and its location at the top of the town offer fabulous views, making it a visually striking landmark. Reddit

Today, while bullfights are held only occasionally and are often different from traditional corridas (like novilladas without picadores), the Plaza de Toros Mijas continues to be a venue for cultural events. It frequently hosts flamenco shows and displays of Andalusian horses, blending its historical purpose with contemporary artistic expressions. Instagram+1

Experiencing Plaza de Toros Mijas: Day vs. Night

A visit to the Plaza de Toros Mijas offers two distinct experiences, depending on the time of day. During the daytime, it's a historic site to explore at your own pace. Visitors can walk around the arena, admire the unique oval shape, and soak in the stunning panoramic views of Mijas Pueblo and the surrounding mountains. It's a perfect opportunity for photography and to appreciate the architectural details and historical significance of the bullring. InstagramReddit+1

As the sun sets, the Plaza de Toros Mijas undergoes a transformation. It becomes a lively bar where locals and tourists gather to enjoy music and cocktails. This evening ambiance offers a different, more social dimension to the venue. It's a chance to experience the plaza as a community hub, enjoying a relaxed atmosphere with a backdrop of history. TikTok

For those interested in cultural performances, the bullring also occasionally hosts flamenco shows and other events. These performances often highlight Spanish culture and traditions, providing an entertaining way to experience the venue beyond its original purpose. Instagram+1
