Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Cerro de la Encina for its rich historical significance as an Argaric settlement and its stunning natural beauty, especially the panoramic views and sunsets. While some note it could be better preserved, the site is highly recommended for its unique insights into ancient life and its picturesque setting.

"The Cerro de la Encina is an argaric archaeological site located on a steep hill (780m a.s.l.) next to the village of Monachil, that has provided some fundamental stratigraphic sequences to date the decline of the argaric culture.

It is a pleasant walk from the village to the site. I've been there in spring after quite a rainy winter, and the abundance of beautiful wild flowers, herbs and grasses was stunning. I was really mesmerized by the evening sun pouring its golden light over a field of glittering wild oat. The views are also awesome there."

"We took a guided tour to this archaeological site of the Argal culture, dating back some 4,000 years. The site holds such a rich history, from the burial of their dead within their dwellings to the hierarchical organization of their society, is truly impressive. It could be better preserved and monitored, but it's absolutely worth visiting to learn about the role this place played in our history. It's always open to the public."

Javier Pérez Invernón

Beautiful views of the valley and the gorges, as well as the town of Monachil. We loved the sunset with its pink skies and the stunning shadows on the mountains. I highly recommend it."
